Alfred Justice wrote, regarding Nicolas Latham of Congleton, "His executors were Thomas, Lord Stanley, Sir William Stanley and John Stanley (Tabley MS., quoted 122 [History of Cheshire, Ormerod], Vol. 1, p. 366). The author has made repeated attempts to locate this MS, but without success. In the writer's opinion he was the father of Thomas Latham of Culworth, Northamptonshire."^[44]
However, Scott Swanson wrote, "Alfred Justice provided John Latham's father, Thomas Latham of Kingsthorpe, with an ancient Lancashire pedigree. Yet, except for the coat of arms emblazoned on Nicholas Latham's monument, on Lewis Latham's portrait, and on Weston Clarke's signet ring, no evidence really exists at present to connect this Northamptonshire family with the Lathams of Lancashire."^[6]

JEREMY CLARKE, son of (KV-5) William and (ATE-2) Mary (WESTON) CLERKE, who was christened on 1 Dec. 1605^{[8, 19]} in East Farleigh^{[8, 19]}, and died about 1651 in Newport. She married (3rd) before 18 Jan. 1656^[19], REV. WILLIAM VAUGHAN, who died between 1 Jan. and 2 Sept. 1677^[23]. ^{[7, 13, 22]}

She was widow of William Dungan, Perfumer, of London. Said William was NOT a son of Thomas Dungan "of Lincoln's Inn". His ancestry is unknown. The ancestry of Lewis Latham is not known perfectly, but there is no doubt that he derives from a long line of falconers to the nobility; there are no known royal connections, though.
