Generation One

1. JOHN1 BEIGH was born between 5 Aug. 1755 and 2 Aug. 1774, and died between 1802 and 1884.

From the 2 Aug. 1790 census, in Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, United States[17]:

Name: John Bay
1 Free White male 16+ (John 16-35)
3 Free White males 0-16 (?, ?, Jacob 5)
2 Free White females 0+ (?, ?)

From the 4 Aug. 1800 census, in Greenwood, Mifflin Co., Pennsylvania[2]:

Name: John Bey
1 Free White male 0-10 (George 3-5)
3 Free White males 10-16 (?, ?, Jacob 15)
1 Free White male 26-45 (John 26-45)
1 Free White female 0-10 (?)
1 Free White female 16-26 (?)

[14, 1, 17, 2]
Assumed to be father of Jacob Beigh based on the fact that
1) Jacob is head of household in 1810 census in Greenwood Mifflin Co, PA,
2) in 1800 in the same location, John Beigh appears with another male in the household the right age to be Jacob, and
3) no other Beighs (or other name variants) appear in that location in the census.
Jacob and Philip are assumed to be brothers since they received land patents for adjoining land in Seneca Co, Ohio at the same time (patents 8315 and 8316 granted 12/14/1835, viewable online at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov).
George and Philip are assumed to be brothers since they are in adjacent households in the 1830 census. They are also in the same locations (Scipio Twp., Seneca Co., Ohio and Clay Twp., Kosciusko Co., Indiana) as Jacob's children Benjamin and Reuben in 1840 and later censuses. Although the 1800 census only has 1 male under 10 living with John (thus George and Philip cannot both be such), Philip may have been born shortly after census day (1 JUN 1800) and so would not be enumerated.
Samuel and Philip are assumed to be brothers because they are buried in the same cemetery and have close birthdates.

[47, 49, 16, 3, 17, 2, 4, 46]
Jacob moved his family from PA to Seneca Co., OH in the early 1830s. At the same time he received his land in Scipio Twp., Seneca Co., OH, Sec. 5 (19 Oct 1833), Philip Beigh received an adjoining parcel of land. (From "Original Entries of Land in Seneca Co., OH", available at http://www.heritagepursuit.com)[49]
The 1830 census calls into question the parentage of Mary, John, and Lydia, since those three are related in location, but do not appear with Jacob in the 1830 census. John Beigh's obituary however says he was born in 1822 near Mifflin, Juniata Co. (created from Mifflin Co. in 1831), Pennsylvania, which does fit with Greenwood Twp.

Also, father Jacob and his probable brothers George and Philip are of Scipio Twp., Seneca Co., Ohio (and later of Clay Twp, Kosciusko Co., Indiana), and Mary's daughter Matilda Richner was born in Scipio Twp. and sponsors at her baptism were "Benjamin Bieg and his wife".[51]
