In the 42nd of HENRY III, has summons to be at Chester upon Monday next after
the feast of St. John the Baptist, well accoutred with horse and arms to oppose
the incursions of the Welsh.

2. JOHN² DE ST. JOHN (Robert¹) of Basing, son of (1) Lord Robert¹ and (JE-2) Agnes (de CANTELUPE), was born in 1225 of Basing, and died on 29 Sept. 1302. He married in June 1256, (AUE-8) ALICE FITZ PIERS of Basing, daughter of (AUE-7) Reginald and Alice (_____) FITZ PIERS, who was born about 1234 of Basing.

"From the eldest son of [Robert de St. John], ... , JOHN, descended the Lords
St. John of Basing, represented by the Marquess of Winchester"
Since Robert was summoned to war in 1257, and Agnes St. John was
born in 1279, this seems to me to be the correct generation - that Agnes was
the dau. of this John St. John. It cannot be higher as there are no John St.
Johns for many generations.

JOHN, was born between 1248 and 1278 of Basing, died on 11 June 1345 and was buried on 27 June 1345 in Cowick, Devonshire. She married in 1292, (MI-6) HUGH DE COURTENAY, 9TH EARL OF DEVON, son of (MI-5) Sir Hugh and (NX-5) Eleanor (le DESPENCER), who was born on 14 Sept. 1275 in Okehampton, died on 23 Dec. 1340^[4], and was buried on 5 Feb. 1340 in Cowick. ^{[2, 3, 4]}

She married of Hatch, about 1328, (EF-8) JOHN BEAUCHAMP, [SIR KNIGHT], son of (EF-6) Sir John and Joan (CHENDUIT), who was born about 1315^[1], and died on 8 April 1349^[1]. ^[5]
